Energy Star Television Specifications.
by arbourrealty.com on September 9, 2009
Who realized how much energy your television really uses. Well apparently it uses considerable amounts, certainly enough for Energy Star to set new standards that will reduce the amount of energy your TV set burns. The new Energy Star specifications for Televisions was finalized as of September 3, 2009, but will not go into effect until May 1st 2010.
If you are considering a new TV, then it may well be worth the 8 month wait until May, the new Energy Star specifications mean that new televisions being sold after May 1st will be 40% more efficient than current models. No worries if you are not yet ready to replace your TV, as the next energy star standards that will be due out May 2012 should be 65% more energy efficient.
These energy savings will certainly reflect on your electricity bill payments, and according to the EPA this could also have significant benefits to the environment. The EPA states that if all TVs in the US meet these requirements, then it’s carbon footprint reduction would be like removing 3 million cars off the road. According to the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, there are over 134,510,252 registered vehicles in the US, removing 3 million cars would reduce carbon emissions by over 2%.
