Algae as a Biofuel.

Everyone would agree that we need an alternative to harmful fossil fuels, a fuel that is cleaner and healthy for us and the environment. Ongoing
research has shown that an unlikely photosynthetic organisms could be a large contender for an alternate to fossil fuel. Algae has been for sometime researched as a feasible biofuel.
Continental Airlines have already conducted a test flight using Algae as an aviation fuel alternative, and other tests have shown that Algae has strong potential as a renewable fuel, according to report on CNN.com. Algae biofuel is not as eco-friendly as solar power or wind power, but produces significantly less green house gases when burned compared to fossil fuels.
Algae fuel can be farmed almost anywhere, and is reported to be less corrosive to vehicles compared to ethanol. One of the other main advantages of Algae fuel is that is can work with current fossil fuel infrastructure such as refineries and filling stations.
Algae fuel could be about 5-10 years away from being at your local gas station, but Exxon Mobile have invested $600 million into research, suggesting that they must see some potential for Algae as a fuel in the future. The race for a green renewable alternate to fossil fuel is on.
