Residential Wind Turbines

by arbourrealty.com on August 20, 2009

Ever dreamed of living life off the energy grid, being totally carbon natural.  Imagine not having to worry about contributing to the productionWind Turbines of harmful chemicals that coal burning power plants create.  If you live in an area where the wind speed is 7-10mph or above, then this dream could finally become a reality.

Wind turbines are popping up all over the place, and are a great renewable energy source. Now it is possible to have a wind turbine at your place of residence.  Residential wind turbines work the same way as the large wind turbines by collecting kinetic energy from the wind and converts it to electricity.  The residential wind turbine system creates electricity that is compatible with a home’s electrical system, so no special wiring is necessary.

The wind turbine typically lowers your electricity bill by 50 to 90 percent. Obviously the amount of money you save will depend on how much wind energy you can produce and also the amount of electricity you are using.

Residential wind turbines cost between $6,000 to $22,000, although this may seem a lot, it is significantly cheaper than a solar power unit. Plus if you are planning on staying in your home for the long term, your savings should pay off in about 6-12 years.  Once the system has paid for itself your electricity would be almost free, obviously depending on your wind power production. As with any green home improvement, it will also increase the value and the future sell-ability of your home.

To get all the regulations on installing a residential wind turbine, check out this site.

We would love feedback from anyone currently using a wind turbine at their home or place of work.
