NVR- The Evolution of three decades of luxury building
by genevieve concannon on November 4, 2009
The average lay person doesn’t understand that most new homes are more energy efficient by default. When I worked for a luxury custom home
builder, I liaised with the Austin Energy program to get all of our homes rated with the City. It is interesting to know that, in general, the concepts that an architect will institute in their plans are concepts that enable a home to be more energy efficient. Design concepts such as creating 2 foot eves over windows for shading, creating livable outdoor areas such as screened in porches, placing the home on the lot “just so” to make the most of any shade trees and orientation of windows towards the sun for optimal heating and cooling depending on the season. By building tighter homes, an architect has implemented elements of “green design” into their plan.
Also, the lay person should understand that “simple,” everyday advances in technology from programmable thermostats and new developments in insulation production allow for the “new build” to be much for energy efficient by today’s standards. Our generation’s better understanding of our personal impacts on the environment enable design to become more environmentally friendly.
There is a builder in Northern Virginia who understands the natural evolution and progression in design and building. They have spent the past three decades (since 1979) proving that their evolution in building can allow them to proclaim “Luxury for Life.” This understanding has allowed NVR Homes to evolve as a builder; they know that their clients want a home that is up to this generations’ challenge for energy efficiency while accommodating our desire for comfort and beauty.
NVR homes has become poised as the builder who creates beauty and luxury at an affordable price. Their tag line of “Luxury for Life” is a profound statement: with their dedication for evolving with consumer and environmental need and partnership with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program, NVR is able to prove the quality and integrity of their homes provides “Luxury for Life.”
Partnering with ENERGY STAR to produce a product (built on the same principles of that they have established over the last thirty years) that still implies and conveys the beauty and craftsmanship, but also the need for “air-tight, highly efficient homes that heat and cool for less than their traditional counterparts.” NVR states that “perhaps the most dramatic benefit of building an ENERGY STAR qualified home is the reduction of energy costs and consequent reduction of emissions to the environment.”
Something that most homebuyers may inadvertently look past when they are searching for a new home is the resale value. When a homebuyer is first setting out to find their dream house, they are usually looking at the functionality, beauty and comfort. Every homebuyer should be concerned with something that NVR points out quite clearly. Any new homebuyer should be thrilled that when they purchase an air-tight ENERGY STAR rated NVR home they are “investing in a higher resale value for their home.” NVR claims that an ENERGY STAR rated home will prove “as a source of distinction among other comparable homes on the market.”
The partnership with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program solidifies the evolution of NVR Homes who seem to always be on the forefront of building technology and consumer need. NVR has established itself in Northern Virginia as a luxury builder by way of looking to the future, keeping their client on the top of their mind and striving to reduce their impact on the environment as any good builder should.
