These days we hear so much about green building, eco-friendly homes, green architecture and different types of ratings. In fact with so many
different types of terminology it is not surprising that most of us are a little confused. Here is a quick 101 for Green & Natural Building and LEED Ratings.
Green building essentially focuses on the whole wellbeing of the environment. The use of recycled materials, energy conservation and renewable power. A Green building should also have a reduced impact on human health and the environment during the building’s lifecycle.
Natural building uses processes very similar to green building but tries to source materials from local suppliers, and relies heavily on Human Labor. The natural building process also focuses on building compactly and minimizing the ecological footprint.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System(tm). LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance, both new and existing structures. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
