Apartment Recycling
by arbourrealty.com on August 25, 2009
Living in an metropolitan area has many advantages, walkable neighborhoods, local restaurants, great running and biking trails, the list
just goes on. For many of us living in the Northern Virginia area, apartment/condo living has become part of our life style. There are a wide range of condo and apartment buildings in the Northern Virginia area area, with many different features including swimming pools, high tech gyms, roof top gardens, concierge, etc. The choices are plentiful.
I enjoy apartment living, but a big frustration living in a high rise apartment building is the lack of recycling options. Most apartment buildings have a trash chute where all garbage ends up in a compactor, crushed and sent to the landfill site. Some builds have a small recycling area, but the destiny of the recycled matter is anyone’s guess.
After doing a little research, it seems that condo and apartment residents across the country share the same frustration on recycling options. California, which seems to be a state that is way ahead when it comes to environmental issues is planning to mandate recycling for businesses, and apartments. This would force apartment & condo building to supply adequate recycling options for residents, making recycling for the apartment resident a whole lot simpler. Lets hope the other states follow suite.
