Long Bridge Park Opening in Crystal City

The people of Arlington VA spoke and Arlington County listened. Back in 2002 the Arlington County residents were surveyed, and showed interest in Arlington County building a new park, which would include walking trails and an indoor swimming pool.   Then in 2009 Arlington County approved a bid for $23.7 million to build a new park which would include three lighted synthetic grass athletic fields, an esplanade and other amenities at Long Bridge Park located in Arlington VAARLnow.com report that the park actually reached a price tag of $31 million.

If you are not familiar with the area where Long Bridge Park is located, it is in the North End of Crystal City, near the Old Playhouse, in an area that before work started on Long Bridge Park needed updating as it was becoming a very run down.

The new park is anticipated to bring lots of visitors to the new 18 acre recreation area, which features  three lighted synthetic turf athletics fields, half-mile long Esplanade, rain garden and trellis, picnic areas, trails, sun lawn, and a large recreation facility.  In keeping with Arlington County’s green commitment all facilities on the site are designed to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program Silver rating. Outdoor facilities such as parking areas, picnic areas, plazas and roads are designed to make this park a model of environmentally responsible design. The park is also close to Crystal City’s Blue Line Metro station, and serviced by Metrobus 9A E, S making getting to Long Bridge Park easy with local public transportation.
