The Power of Online Reviews
It is incredible how powerful online reviews have become. I check on reviews for everything and anything. Before I go see a movie, try a restaurant, go see a new doctor, or to buy anything from shoes to electronics. Anything you can think of, you can find a review for.
With so many choices in the world today, I want to find the best of whatever it is at a great price. I want a good experience. I want to be warned of any defects, inconveniences, and issues. I want to stay away from food poisoning, bad customer service, exploding toasters, or sizes running too big or too small. I want to find the best sushi place in DC or the most comfortable chair created priced under $200. When it comes down to it, I want to make an informed decision. I also want a place where I can share my experience to help others.
A platform I currently use on a regular basis is Yelp. Being a foodie, I use it mostly to find restaurants. I like to filter out the bad restaurants and hit the ones that are consistently making 5 stars. I like to read about dishes everyone is recommending at particular restaurants.
Recently, I had a bad experience at a sandwich shop near my work. After I posted my review, the owner contacted me for more information so no one else had to experience what I did. I appreciate this on so many levels.
Online reviews not only help people find great places and stuff, it helps businesses figure out what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong. Then there are the happy business owners that contact you after you post a good review to send you a coupon in appreciation.
We should all take a little time today to write some helpful reviews for your fellow consumers.
