Gaslight Square Update
Last month I wrote a quick blog introducing brand new loft style homes coming to Arlington called Gaslight Square. I’ve long been a fan of Abdo Development’s work as you can see by my giving Wooster & Mercer Lofts the number 1 spot in my list of the Top 10 Condos in Arlington. That said, I have been eagerly awaiting more information about Gaslight Square since they broke ground in January. Last night I attended an invitation only, friends & family reception celebrating the ground breaking and opening of sales for Gaslight Square. I went from being cautiously optimistic to excited about this new project. I’m even shuffling around the idea of downsizing from a house in N. Arlington to buy one for myself.
Abdo bought a full city block in the middle of Courthouse and Rosslyn to accommodate this project that they have been sitting on for 3 years. Jim Abdo described this project as a culmination of all that he has learned over the years. To say the least, it will be special.
Here is a list of initial pricing as it was described last evening:
Gaslight Square FLATS
- 1,118 Square foot 1 bedroom with den / 1.5 bath residences with 36 square foot balcony from $695,000
- 1,337 Square foot 2 bedroom / 2 bath residences with 36 square foot balcony from $869,900
Gaslight Square LOFTS

- 1,600 square foot 2 bedroom / 2.5 bath / loft residences with 459 square foot patio, featuring 19′ ceilings and spiral staircases from $1,069,900
- 1,842 square foot 2 bedroom / 2.5 bath / loft penthouse residences with 288 square foot terrace, featuring 19′ ceilings and spiral staircases from $1,284,900
Pricing is deemed to be reliable but not guaranteed. Pricing is also subject to change and I expect that to happen in an upward fashion. Condos fees are projected to start around $250 / month for the 1 bedroom homes.
What I Like About Gaslight Square
The renderings of the loft units make them hard to pass up. The double-height 19′ high walls of window are extremely dramatic. Every unit will have direct elevator access. No long hallways, the elevator opens directly into your home. Finishes will be similar to Wooster & Mercer Lofts… Wolf and Subzero appliances, hardwood floors throughout, gourmet kitchens and custom baths. They are thinking ahead by planning to install electric car charging stations in the underground garage.
In case you are wondering about the name… I learned that gas lamps will be placed throughout the grounds. Some will border the perimeter and other will light the walkways between the three buildings. There will a total of three buildings and they will parallel Clarendon Blvd. Two buildings will contain 40 homes and the third will contain 37 homes. I think they said that the buildings will be set about 50′ apart from each other so that they allow natural light to pass through.
Two reasons to think about buying early:
- Be able to choose where your home will be located as the best spots are sure to go fast
- Avoid price escalations
I was told that delivery may start as early as September of 2011.
