Eat, sleep, work and play in Arlington’s Shirlington District

Northern Virginia boasts many neighborhoods that offer a place to eat, sleep , work and play but none do it with cultural depth and the casual chic convenience as Shirlington. Located just off of the 395 exit and Glebe Rd one can find office buildings, condos and apartments, restaurants, bars, a library, grocer, and a movie theater to name a few. Dining in Shirlington

Your afternoon will begin in Europe where a stroll down the avenue past the neighborhood coffee cafe will lead you to an Italian sense of high fashion at Viera Italy. Limited in sizes- but not style this urban boutique will be ready to dress your best for the evenings activities. Next it’s over to France, to find an unusual gift at the award winning La Village Marche for that jet setting friend who has everything and needs nothing.

Jet Lagged yet? Studio Salon and Spa is next on the list with an oxygen increasing and stress releasing Swedish massage. After the invigorating journey to Sweden you must be thirsty for a variety of hard to find Trappist ales from Belgium. Sorry, you have to come back on Monday for The Curious Grape’s free beer tasting that has a great selection for sale 7 days week.

Hope you are hungry because we are off to Asia for dinner… but where to start? West Asia hosts Aladin’s Eaterery serving up some of Lebenon’s favorites with healthy vegetarian options to enjoy. Ping, by Charlie Chaing’s, is t Aladdin's in Shirlington he ultra modern Asian inspired culinary spot. They feature yummy Sushi- Japanese style and one of China’s national foods, Peking Duck. Still have room? Try out T.H.A.I. (Tasty Thai Cuisine, Hospitality and warmth, Architectural elegance, Innovative season elegance) for that hip n´ tasty getaway you have been looking for. The last stop on our Asian culinary experience leads us to Aroma displaying some of India´s best recipes with many platters for two to sample the variety.

Since the little ones have been so well behaved on their travels why not bounce over to Australia for a trip to One Two Kangaroo Toys. They just received a shipment of new Tech Kites perfect for those spring evenings.

As we head back to the Americas, Guapo’s is perfect stop for some after dinner margaritas with a variety of tequila straight from Mexico. The also serve up some of the best weekend brunches so don´t forget to revisit some of your favorite destinations in the morning.

If you are still feeling deprived of foreign excursions Shirlington is the home of three theaters offering many cultural and international productions. AMC Lowes Cineplex is an independent film venue with A.M. viewings of the latest indy and foreign films. The Classika Theater is a Russian theatrical experience for the whole family. They offer children’s camps and a party space . The third theater is Signature with a full calendar of productions, free community events, galas, and specialty events just to name a few. Its attached the the Shirlington public library so when all else fails you can open a book and explore the entire world.

Shirlington’s Bus Station opened in 2008 and has become the principal transfer point for Metrobus and ART bus service in South Arlington. The enclosed station is also home to the Commuter Store who can provide any sort of transportation information you need. Since there is not an actual Metro station in Shirlington, most people opt to ride the extensive network of buses into Pentagon or take the ART bus towards Ballston or Courthouse. In what ever way you chose to commute, Shirlington is supremely convenient for everyone. One of the main reasons, aside from all of the great Metrobus systems is that if you are driving into Arlington’s Shirlington district, parking is never an issue either with ground lots, metered parking, valet and several large parking garages.

The Village at Shirlington will be your best spot to explore on your own. As far as housing goes, below are a few example of what can be found in the area.
