Bike to Work Day
Friday May 21st 2010 is national bike to work day, and there really is no better time to leave the car at home, and join likeminded Northern Virginia residents making the commute to work by bike. This is also your opportunity to experience the environmental & health benefits of bike commuting, and car free living.
Not only will national bike to work day help continue your green commitment; it will also be an exciting event for all Northern Virginia residents. Nation Bike to Work Day is being organized by WABA (Washington Area Bicyclist Association). WABA have set up 35 regional pit stops where you can stop, take a break and meet up with fellow commuters. Freedom Plaza in Rosslyn will be the main staging area, although food, drink, prizes, and much more will be available at all area pit stops. There will also be an organized commuter convoy, which will help you experience and plan future routes to work. The financial benefits of switching from car commuting to bike commuting are significant. Not only will you save money on gas, parking, and general vehicle wear & tear, you will also receive money on your next tax return. There is now a new environmental tax benefit for bike commuters. People who commute to work by bike are eligible for a $20 a month tax benefit.
