Arlington Residents and students welcomed the opening of the new Reed School & Westover Library last Friday in Arlington Virginia. They celebrated this $22.5 million ReedWestover1joint facility with a 2 day celebration which featured a Halloween community open house, live music, a WalkArlington neighborhood walkabout and green tours of the building.

This joint Library/School facility replaces the two separate buildings which were housed in separate locations. Reed School & Westover Library are now housed in a single, environmentally sustainable building on the site of the old Reed School.

Reed-Westover facility is built to LEED Silver certifications, and preserved nearly all of the existing open space.  Building under the LEED rating system, addresses issues such as classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention and environmental site assessment to name a few. Barbara Favola, chairman of the Arlington County Board invites people into this building to see this wonderful new complex which is a result of partnership involving Arlington Public School, Arlington County Government, Civic Leaders & neighbors.

Take the opportunity to check out the new Westover Library which features a ‘green’ sunlit reading area, 26 computers for public use and free WiFi access inside and outside the building. This sounds like the perfect place to go, select a book and, just chill for a while. As for the site of the old of the Westover Library, the building is scheduled to be pulled down later this year returning the land to Arlington public green space.
