As global warming continues and water levels rise, more and more homes & people will become displaced, or threaten by water damage due to hurricanes. This Floatin Homeis also a major problem for homes located in areas such as New Orleans, and other low level cities on coastal areas prone to hurricanes and tropical storms.

In an article on ENN.com Morphosis Architects are addressing these problems  under the direction of renowned architect and UCLA distinguished Professor Thom Mayne, and have completed the first floating house permitted in the United States for Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation in New Orleans.  This home is built on a raft, so when water rises the home will float, and saving the home and the contents from water damage.  This will also allow for the home owners to return to their home after the hurricane has passed, and reduce displacement time.

The float house also is on track for a LEED Platinum Rating, the state-of-the-art home uses high-performance systems, energy efficient appliances, and prefabrication methods to produce an affordable, sustainable house that generates its own power, minimizes resource consumption, and collects its own water.
