Environmental Logos!

Green Logos, they are abundant.  Did you ever wonder what each of them stood for, and what environmental issues they covered.  Green companies are springing up everywhere, and some are making misleading environmental claims, whether it be intentional or unintentional. I think as the consumer we have the right to know what we are buying into is factual.   Green logos help us know that the product or company is actually certified in that environmental field.  To help you make informed environmental decisions, here is a quick introduction to some of the most common green logos.

Energy Star Logo ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

water senseWATER SENSE, a partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, makes it easy for us to save water and protect the environment. Look for the WaterSense label to choose quality, water-efficient products. http://epa.gov/watersense/

GreennguardThe GREENGUARD Certification ProgramSM is an industry-independent, third-party testing program for low-emitting products and materials To date, more than 170 manufacturers across various industries offer GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified® Products.  http://www.greenguard.org/

Green SealGREEN SEAL product or service categories are evaluated using a life-cycle approach to ensure that all significant environmental impacts are considered in the development of a standard, from raw materials extraction through manufacturing to use and disposal. http://greenseal.org/index.cfm

CRICRI launched its Green Label program to test carpet, cushions and adhesives to help consumers identify products with very low emissions of Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are gases or vapours emitted by various solids or liquids, many of which have short- and long-term adverse health effects. http://carpet-rug.org/commercial-customers/green-building-and-the-environment/green-label-plus/index.cfm
