You remember that old saying look after the cents and the dollars look after themselves. I feel that also applies to energy & the environment. It is the little things that get overlooked but could be costing you a lot in the long run and wasting valuable energy.

TV’s and other electrical equipment on standby wastes energy and really increases those electric bills.  Although only a small amount of energy is being used, over the course of a year and through millions of households this really adds up. Additionally, cell phone chargers, microwaves and other electronics with transformers continue to draw power, even when they’re off or not charging, if they’re plugged in. In the U.S., such “phantom electricity” emits about 12 million tons of carbon into the atmosphere a year, according to Conservation International.

Taking a couple of extra seconds out of your day to unplug appliances could make the world of difference to the environment and your bank account. Do you have a green tips or suggestions?
