Empty Nest. Figuratively. Not literally.
by admin on October 2, 2009
My husband and I got married in April and we used that cutesie little website theknot.com. Apparently, after we were married, the website converted
automatically to thenest.com so that we could be kept in their ever evolving loop to the masses of people who feed into their articles and what have you. The interesting thing is that every once in a while, I get a little email from thenest.com sharing a fun tidbit of information targeted at the newly wed looking to nest. Ha. I guess I am one of the masses. Yes, I fed into their strategy and poked around on their site this afternoon because I had a moment of lapsed concentration or weakness. Or something.
Since we’ve just settled into our own little nest, so to speak, I thought that it would be fun to see what they had listed under “Décor Tricks.” A little advice never hurt right? How delighted was I to see the “Green Living” tab?! Totally delighted, let me tell you. So, I clicked on Green Living and waited for the page to load… Waited a little longer. Hmmm…
Refresh.
Nothing.
Refresh. Do I need to reboot?
No. They didn’t have anything listed on their “Green Living” page! I’d been duped. Not once- shame on me for falling prey to the mass email “interesting advice” scam- but twice! I’d clicked on décor tricks and ultimately Green Living. Wow, does that make three times?! Maybe it does.
So, not everyone knows what is going on in the world of living green. Living sustainably, so to speak. Not even thenest.com and their team of folks who may or may not have knowledge about what products to cut out of their routine or how to read the bottom of a ricotta cheese tub after you’ve made your first lasagna so you make sure you recycle it property… No, not everyone knows these things, but at least they acknowledge that there is a need to get the information out there via their website aimed at newlyweds. Maybe when we progress to thebump.com, they’ll have a green living tab that will actually have content and said content will be littered with diaper service details and how to make your own organic babyfood. Ahhh… sigh… things to look forward to.
Something that made me giggle a little to myself while I was trolling the site was that the funny thing about it is that there were tons of articles about managing credit as a newlywed. I guess if everyone lived a full life of sustainability- from earth consciousness to credit limits, we wouldn’t be in the current predicament that we find ourselves in- environmentally or economically. Interesting, isn’t it?
